Can I put some Pigeons in with my Chickens? - 11/16/11 11:27 AM

I Plan to get 2 Guinea Hens, 1 Rooster and 9 Chickens of assorted kinds. I am new to this. I have a Rabbit Hutch Built for two rabbits off the front, I had Pigeons as akid and would like to get two, Can they go in the same coop? Can they eat the same foods?
Just looking into option on birds that could be kept with my Chickens if I do Decide to add some. I do Plan to make an addition to my coop or build another. Thanks a lot

I have wild Doves flying into one of my coops and eating the chicken feed. All seem to get along. I don't know about pigeons.

I have seen people keep hens and pigeons together. There is a danger connected to this situation if the pigeons fly freely where they want. There are some contagious diseases the pigeons can come home with and infect the chickens. I do not remember the names at the moment.

Our local Poultry Newsletter mentioned disease threats and did not recommend keeping them together--some time ago, no longer have the information. You may hear from people who Do KEEP together, I would not....Different separated Pigion lofts would be safer. Saw some in Denmark......CJR
