A family member has recently took in a Peacock.... - 07/25/12 06:09 PM

I figured this would be the best place to ask! smile

A friend of my uncles gave him a beautiful peacock because he didn't want it anymore. (His kids were scared of it or something but its actually really sweet and gentle) I was looking online to try to figure out age and gender. But we are a bit confused, The peacock is blue, green and white. Here are some pictures http://imgur.com/a/kZDNe (The small coup is temporary, they are building a large coupe.) Im guessing its a female because it doesn't have the big fan feathers? Can you tell what gender and age just by looking at a picture? Also are the colors/pattern a rare thing in the peacock world?

Welcome to the coop. Can't you ask the former owner about the age? If the bird is several years old and does not have the fan tail, then it is most probably a female. I do not know much about peacocks, but there are several colour mutations. I do not know how rare they are. I think Kaalnek and Jocelyn know quite a lot about peacocks, I hope they chime in.
