Help!!! I have a pet tom turkey who is about to turn 12 years old. He has something growing out of his ear. It looks like a tube and is about 2 1/2 inches long. It curves upward. He has finally let me get close to him without his wrath upon me. Has anyone ever heard of this before? What can I do to help him? Any advice greatly appreciated.

Kay I answered you PM, but that photo on here is fine, so disregard my offer.

Is that growth hard at all? By the looks of it, it appears to be a supernumerary if that can exist in turkeys (Normally reference to teeth smile ) It appears to be a part of a spare leg, at least like the scales on a leg and may have been a defect right from the start? How long has it taken to grow that long, is it still growing, and at what speed at present?
I see he is 12 years old. When did it first appear?
Can you catch him and examine it really closely to see if it is like fingernail that can be clipped, or does it have a blood supply?

Hi, It has been growing over the last year. I tried touching it but he does not like that. It seems rigid at the base and is hard to the touch. I do think its hollow because at the tip it is open. It seems to have stopped growing. It is coming out of his ear whatever it is. I thought it might be a tumor of sorts. He has just recently (in the last few months) let me get near him without him flogging me. Spring is on its way and he will be back up to his old tricks soon. I want to see if I can take care of this as soon as I can. I will try and get a "feel" for it and see if I can take a closer pic. I have some Vetericyn that is an antibiotic that I thought of spraying on it. Im not sure if I should spray it in or on it. There are no "poultry" vets in my area so Im on my own. Ive been pretty lucky for him to be his age and him be in otherwise good health. After I post a pic let me know what you think. Sorry about the delay in the past. Thank you K

I have seen the picture and my reaction was OMG!It is like something Sigourney Weaver would fight against!! It looks like a leg growing out of the head. Do you mean literally 'Out of his ear' like from the hole?

yes it is growing out of his ear, it's like the inside of his ear is looking for light!!! The end of it looks like it is drying up. I tried to touch it but he wont let that happen. It looks like it has blood ( or alive) about half the way up. Maybe it will just dry all the way up eventually. I want to help him I just have never seen anything like this. Anybody know what this could be?
