Does anyone know what this is? The bird is an OEGB if that matters. It was posted by a friend trying to help another friend so I don't know anything about the rest of the flock or circumstances. I can ask though if more information is needed

Damerow, The Chicken Health Handbook, has "Skin Diseases" lists just one that has any description like the picture:

RARE
Necrotic dermatitis: Ages 3weeks-6 months old, reddish black skin paches--. rough Red, black featherless skin on wings, breast, abdomen or legs.--antibiotics, Penicillin, tetracyclines, not highly contageous

Progression, acute,. mortality 60-100%/ sudden death.

Someone else mentioned Favus, a fungal thing like ringworm but all I can find are photo's of Favus on the face and comb. I guess she'll know if it dies suddenly.

That thing looks like it is growing spirally. It almost looks like a sea shell. I've never seen it before. I'm interested in seeing what it turns out to be.
