Can anyone tell me what is the best way to remove the spurs on my Roosters?

This is one of the most frequent recurring topics on all the chicken boards. lots of methods will do the job. After removing hundreds of sets of spurs, the very best is with a spur saw. Lacking that, a hacksaw blade wors fine. can be done at any age with absolutely no trauma to the bird. A bit of bleedinf can be stopped with "blood stop powder", or simply leave the wound alone.hold the leg firm and have partner saw off spur at approx. 3/8ths inch.

I was taught that if you want to shorten the spurs, you take a pair of pliers and grab the spur. Gently twist until the spur comes off. What will be left is a pulpy, much shorter spur. It may be bloody in which case, you can powder it with flour or corn starch.

In the end you have much shorter, duller spur and a pair of caps that make for great jewelry smile
