How many out there have had the problem with rats?
I heard that each chicken would eat around 4oz of feed per day but I have only 4 birds and was putting out around 2-3 pounds every day. I had rats around so I figured they were consuming the rest. 20 pounds of feed would only last me about 8 to 9 days.

I went online and looked for rat-proof chicken feeders and settled with one out of Oklahoma City thru "TheCarpenterShop.net". It uses a treadle for the chickens to step on and the door swings open and when they finish the door will swing back closed. It is galvanized metal so easy to keep clean.

The feeder will hold up to 20 pounds but, now that I have the feeder, the 20 pounds will last me 20 days. My feed consumption was cut in less than half. Didn't take me long to pay for the feeder with the savings. Plus the feeding area is much cleaner and no rats.

Any similar stories out there?

Sounds as though your chickens took to the treadle feeder very well. Sometimes it takes a while for them to get confident with one.
