Originally I tried to find out whether it is possible to improve quote functions in UBBThreads
Especially in long threads it would be better that a Quote refer by hyperlink to the original posting.
http://www.ubbcentral.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/topics/255560/1
But my enquiry in a UBBThread support forum shows, that there is no really interest to improve their software. In other Forum Boards this function is Standard.
Due to the security risk and the oldfashioned features of this Board (to that price) I would recommend a switch to another forum board.

I want recall again, that they say that there is a security risk in this Board version! It would be very sad if we would loose all these worthfull threads, by a breakdown!!

So I want to suggest to change to another Board.

PhpBB would be okay
http://www.kippenforum.nl/phpBB3/index.php
http://www.forum-software.org/phpbb3/review

Other alternatives are (just a selection)
http://www.forum-software.org/forum-comp...o-vs-zetaboards

If You would choose my favorites the IPBoard or Burning Board, I would make a donation for the initial license. smile

For Loren, just for the case I have success to get in contact.

Here are the postings where they warned in the UBBThread-Support-Forum about the security problems in UBB.threads™ 7.5.4.2 - the first time in 2011
http://www.ubbcentral.com/forums/ubbthre...ymbo#Post246890
http://www.ubbcentral.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/topics/255504/re-hyperlink-quote#Post255504

As UBBThreads is really not the best Software for that money, I rather recommend to change to another Board and export the Forum content than wasting money for a security update of a still oldfashioned software.

Subject:
New Board Software - Security Risk of the used version

Dear Loren,

initally I wanted to suggest to introduce an improved Quote feature at the Coop Classroom Board and again - as mentioned already in a thread in 2011, they warned in the UBBThread supporter Forum about a huge security risk of the used version.
This security lack exists already since more than 3 Years.

Would You consider to switch to another Board software, if we member are ready to pay a member/supporter fee?
Compare these examples
http://www.backyardchickens.com/a/byc-memberships-help-support-backyardchickens
http://www.poultrychat.com/index.php?app=subscriptions

Please consider to change the Board software, it would be a great loss for us all chicken genetic addicts, if the Board content would be lost by a crash!
And UBBThread is not very comfortable in relation to that price!

Regards

Daniel aka Redcap

What shall we do when Loren doesn't give any reaction?
Is there a possibility to copy the content of the old forum (which is lost already and can only be accessed by archive.org, but how long this will be so?)
http://www.the-coop.org/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=88325#Post88325
and the content of this forum to a new plattform?
Maybe with a new name e.g. www.coop-classroom.com ??

Or as the community topics are mostly centered on poultry genetics maybe the
www.chicken-genetics.com
http://www.cheap-registrar.com/domains/s...mp;pl_id=107275

or
www.poultry-genetics.com
http://www.cheap-registrar.com/domains/s...mp;pl_id=107275

or

www.coop-genetics.com
http://www.cheap-registrar.com/domains/s...mp;pl_id=107275

Loren has an account at www.linkedin.com and can be contacted through that site, if he checks or replies. You have to be a member to make contact with other members. Similar to our Private Messages.

I think it would be nice if he would turn the site over to one or more dedicated members who could move the classroom forward.

I have opened a linkedin account, but the free one does not allow direct contact. However, I have other friends who do have it, and I will be asking for their help in reaching Loren.

Meantime, I have been dropped from the COOP, and have had to reapply for membership. Now, I cannot reach my messages, other saved material????????????

CJR, I don't see anything wrong with your old account. I have sent you a new temporary password to your e-mail address. Remember it is case sensitive. I will also e-mail your user name.
