Hello everyone. Does anyone know the history about this breed? Temperament? It lays blue eggs, and from pictures I've seen, was not selected for any specific feather pattern/color.

There is also a green egg laying breed.

Hi Wiley,

I believe the Whiting True Blue originated with Dr. David Caveny. He then gave the birds to Dr. Tom Whiting of Whiting Farms in Delta Colorado, who continued the project and now supplies Murray McMurray with breeding stock.

The goal was to make a blue egg layer with the production qualities of a commercial Leghorn. If I remember correctly, Dr. Caveny crossed commercial Leghorns with blue egg layers, bred the offspring together, selected for blue eggs and non-white color patterns, and would then cross back to commercial Leghorns and repeat the process. When Dr. Whiting obtained the birds, he continued this process and crossed back to commercial birds a few more times.
