help! i have lost three chicks in 2 days.
all three were fine the day before they died.
all were in seperate cages about 20 feet apart.
first was about 4 weeks old.
second was about 5/6 weeks old.
third was at least 8 weeks old.
first 2 werent dead when i found them, just unable to stand. both were not drinking or eating.
these 2 were not in the same cage, frsh water twice a day, plenty of feed.
i watched both these chicks for about an hour each, then just did the deed and put them down.
third chick was active and healthy 2 hours before i found it dead.
all of the other chicks in the cages seem to be fine, but after the third chick i am starting to get worried.

anyone have any ideas?
need any more info?

When they go down that fast and they are kept apart I would get a necropsy done. It is either an air born disease or you have transmitted it from cage to cage while feeding or handling. I don't know what else to suggest. You cant treat it until you know what it is. Good luck to you!

I would make up a bleach solution and spray every cage. Clean every watering container and every feeding dish with the solution. Soak the cages with the bleach solution. 1 1/2 cups bleach to 1 gallon of water. Let the pens dry and put in new bedding.

Do not let any area of the pen stay damp. Bacteria, protozoans and molds thrive in moist and warm areas. Keep the pens dry.

well, whatever it was is over, havent lost a chick in 2 days. seems medicated chick starter worked on this batch.
ended up loosing 3 frizzle red cochins, and 6 bantam wyandottes, and 2 mutts. got bantam rir's in the cages next to the wyandottes and never lost a bird! funny how these things happen huh?
