My two and half month old Polish pullet has a small brown knob on her middle toe that I noticed this morning. It's very small and looks dry, and is a sandy brownish color. She has no other symptoms. None of the others have one, that I've been able to see yet. What could it be?

Is it on the toe NAIL, the tip of the toe? If so, it is probably some dirt and poop that has collected, and can be gently split with a needle nosed pliers and cracked off, gently, so you do not damage the nail itself. This happens when dampness allows it to stick on the toes while they are scratching away and being busy. Hope it is nothing else. CJR

I don't know. It could be that. It's sticking out of the side of her toe and it looks sort of like a pimple. It's very small and I thought it was dried poop at first, but I couldn't get it to wipe off. I'm going to examine it some more and see if it might come off with a little more persistence.

I was just looking at it again, and I really don't think it's something dried on. It seems more growth-ish, like I said above, sort of like a pimple thing. She also didn't seem to like me touching it.

This morning when I checked on her the bump seems a tiny bit bigger, but more alarmingly she has a bloody, scabby area on the 'webbing' between the affected toe and the right toe. Should I be looking at treatments for bumblefoot?

It really doesn't sound like bumble foot. If it is bumble the area will usually be noticeably swelled. I would try cleaning, applying antibiotic ointment and bandaging for now. Keep us updated and good luck!

We cleaned her up yesterday and put Neosporin on the wound, then bandaged it as well as we could. Haven't checked on her yet this morning though.

I definitely hope it's not Bumblefoot.
