Does anyone know how I can get my month and a half old chickens to stop eating hay? I'm afraid one of them will end up with another impacted crop, but I can't monitor them all day. When they were smaller they had pine shavings as bedding, but they ate that a lot more so we switched to hay. Now I don't know what to do.

Any suggestions?

Zuzy,

I have raised hundreds of chickens on straw and have not had a problem. Do not worry your chicks will be just fine.

I feed mine hay in the winter, clover or alfalfa. They need grit to aid in grinding it up is all. The geese really go for hay in winter, anykind.

Okay... I guess I just worry too much about the potential for impacted crops since one of them just got over having one. Thanks!
