I am a complete novice at chick raising and suffer from a dearth of knowledge about chicken anatomy (except, of course, for the ones I buy in the market to cook and eat). I have 3 two-and-a-half-week old bantam chicks under the care of their (apparently) able mother. I just noticed last night that all 3 youngsters seem to have an unsightly bulge on their chests. Is this normal? I've been trying to find something on the internet that can explain this to me, but so far have run across nothing helpful. Any ideas, please reply. Many thanks!

That bulge is probably nothing but a crop full of food. smile That's normal, in fact it is excellent that they have it full, because that means that they are eating well.

Ok. I wondered if that was what it was--and that's why I was thinking "anatomy" and looking on the internet. I guess I'll just watch and wait and see. Thank you!
