I ordered some day old chicks that should be arriving thursday. laugh What temp should I keep them at? I usually have my broody hatch my chicks so they have always stayed warm at night being under mom. I planned on keeping them inside for awhile, just don't know how long to. Day temps are in the 80s and night temps around 65 outside right now.

You need your brooder temp. at about 95 degrees for the first week. Then you can drop the temp. about 5 degreeseach week after that.Good luck with your chicks

I don't worry about a thermometer. I watch the chicks. If they are all spread out panting, they are too hot - so I raise the heat lamp or lower the wattage of the bulb.

If they are all crowded together under the lamp, they are too cold so I lower the lamp or increase the wattage. - Kathy
