Hello,

I am figuring on getting a few bobwhite quail this spring, I was wondering if chickens carry a disease that does not effect them but kills quail. I had a neighbor that would not let someone with chickens go near his quail pens. He said that the chickens carried a disease that was harmless to them but if a quail came in contact with it it would kill them. I was wondering because I have my large chicken pen then two small ones that are for chicks and the other for butchering roosters. Since I no longer raise chicks or butchering roosters why not use one of those pens for the quail. The pens share fence and this is why I am concerned. Any help is greatly appreciated smile

Someone may know, I don't, but this is what I have. I have a pigeon coop with 25 pigeons, 2 guinea pigs, 3 chickens, 25 dove, and have had up to 25 pharoah quail in the bottom, now just 10 and had button quail in with them, oh and the golden pheasent. Knock on wood I haven't lost any to disease, even when I had dry pox going around real bad. As of last night all was well. I would just really clean those pens and spray with a disinfectant, top to bottom. Have the pens been empty for a long time, 6mos. or longer? Good luck

Yes, the chicks went in the big pen in june and the the roosters were butchered in july. The chick pen that i want to put them in is about ten feet wide and twenty feet long, i would need to cover it but that would be no problem. I hope bobwhites are the same as the quail you had. Thanks for the info.

I have never had any problems, I have chickens, pigeons, rabbits, chukars and quail. I have not had a problem with disease.
