I have several pairs of Bobwhite quail, and some have started nests. In one of the nests the female has finished laying and the male and only the male has been setting on them. I looked it up in my bird nest guide and it says that both the male and female have been reported to share incubation. But nowhere does it say that the male is soley the incubator.

Has anybody heard of this before?

It happens when there are several males and females in one pen. The males can be better at brooding than the female. They will often raise the brood with no help from the female.

Hm interesting! This particular pair are the only ones in the pen save for a few pet bantams that seem to get along with them.
