Are all quail prone to coccidioses? I have a pen I really need to put bobwhite in but I have had cocci in that pen, not a good idea? the quail are 3months old and never been on the ground. And if I did use the pen can I treat them with Emtryl(dimetridazole)? Turkeys were in that pen.

Maybe this would work for you, maybe not. It's working to hold 7 pairs for us, year round.

If you have an area that has tall grasses, then it works great!

make a 5x8' mini hoop house, use 3/4" mesh and keep the top of it short, about 3-4' tall. They DO NOT NEED FLIGHT SPACE. Move the mini hoop house around the field, yard (even front yard) as needed, or once a week. To add to a more natural looking environment, take some long grass stems and throw it ontop of the hoop house. They seem to really enjoy that canopy effect.

BTW - if you put them into tall grassy areas, they will clean every seed off the grasses, a nice plus!

I wouldn't put any bird down in an area where you've had disease problems, without first tilling under and replanting - espically quail.
