Susie's Buttermilk Pie just came out of the oven - I'll have a (small) taste when it cools! This is what it looks like just hot from the oven. The cake is a birthday cake in progress.

P.S. I cheat and use pie shells from the store. Rather than sprinkle the nutmeg over the top, I mixed it with the rest of the ingredients. Nutmeg is one of the spices I use in my apple pie as well, and if you use too much it gives a carot taste to the apple pie.

The cake is a white cake with cream cheese frosting. A close friend, who loves cream cheese, is 52 today and I wanted to do something nice for her.

LOL, Lee! I hope you liked the pie when you got to try a bite!

Very sweet of you to bake a cake for your friend! I am sure she will be thrilled.

We made three more pies: one with numeg sprinkles, another with 1 1/2 cups of white sugar plus 1/2 cup of finely chopped sweetened coconut, and the third was plain with the crust removed and a thickened Morello Cherry sauce spooned over the top and shavings of dark semi-sweet chocolate placed on the that. Excelente!

Will make another one of Susie's pies to day (my 3rd). This time I will top it with pecan halves.

Believe me, Lee, there is enough "substance" here! But if I get *too* substantial and keel over from a heart attack in my 40's, who will fry chicken and make pies for my husband? laugh

Now that I feel like a beached whale eek ...Susie that pie is awesome!!!! I made it tonight. I used a graham cracker crust (thats all my family will eat) but I do not recommend doing so as it disolved in the middle. I guess they will have to adjust to a regular crust from now on!
Thanks for sharing the receipe, it was wonderful!!
