I'M INTERSTED IN THE MOVABLE COOP. DOES ANY-
ONE HAVE ANY FIRST-HAND EXPERENCE WITH THESE
CONTRAPTIONS ? WHAT ABOUT PROTECTION FROM
BURROWING PREDATORS. ANYONE WITH ADVISE FEEL
FREE TO SAY WHAT YOU THINK. THANKS :rolleyes:

Feedus, they are fine. Ideally what you need to make sure of is that they are sitting on hard "flat" grass. Another point to take into account is that if you can, make sure that the hen house is off the ground with a ladder going up to the house door (in bad weather your flock can shelter underneath the house!). Remember, you have to move it around,you can buy some with integral wheels. If your really worried then buy some aviary mesh and staple it across the entire underside of your house/run (grass will still poke through).

cliveb,thanks for your help. some more questions
can the mobile run with coop be adequate for a
summer meat-bird operation? if so, how many birds
and how big should it be ,for say 10 meat kings.??

As a guide, most literature specifies about 4 sq feet per bird (I hate metric). But that really is the minimum. Use the search function and have a look through previous posts.

Another idea to keep digging predators out is to place a 1-2' wide section of 2x4 fence directly on the ground around the outside of the coop. The theory is that animals that dig will try to dig where the fence meets the ground, they will not back up to dig. Once they hit the 2x4 fence and can't dig through it they will move on.
