Can someone please post a good definition for different combs? I read about V, leaf, cushion, rose, single, small, large, pea, hidden, etc, so it becomes a minefield trying to decide who has what and what they look like. Perhaps a picture to illustrate each different type would be useful too. For instance what kind of comb does Blackie have? It's not raised at all, more like a flat shield above her beak. She's a Black araucana x (no idea of the other half) and ought to have a rose comb. Blackie

One of my Wyandottes had that. She was also supposed to have a Rose Comb. Maybe it only occurs in the Rose Comb varieties?

Here are some pics:

It gives you pics of various combs.

I'm not familiar enough with the different comb styles to tell from your photo, but I just got a new McMurrays Catalog and it has illustrations of all the different types of combs. If you go on their website you can order a free catalog. They ship outside of the U.S., so getting a catalog shouldn't be a problem for you.

Looks to me like a cushion. If i'm not mistaken it is a blend of a pea and rose comb..

It is either a Cushion Comb or a Flat Rose Comb without a spike (leader).

I think the Chantecler is the closest to no comb or wattles without alterations. Then again, there are always those oddballs that happen in a flock.

I don't consider dubbing natural so other than removing the comb and wattles, I think the Chantecler is the closest you'll get to no comb/wattles.

Sounds like your Blackie has a straw berry comb. Most Wyandottes have them. But sometimes a couple of chickens in a flock have just a strait comb too. Julia
