Have you thought of or tried this beautiful craft? You might be better at it than I am. If you are interested, the wax is available and some tools locally but the paints you must order. They are not exspencive. Take a look at these eggs!

I thought I would update. I used a dremel to start the hole and a tack to finish the piercing part. I then inserted a 60 cc (big) syringe (with needle) full of air. As I pushed the air in, I held the egg, hole down, over a bowl to collect the egg (no wasting). After I did this a couple times, I rinsed out with water from the syringe. I did bake the eggs at 215 degrees for 15 minutes and it did bake the inside membrane and help dry out the egg. I then decorated with various things and sprayed on a polyurithene coat. They turned out really well and were easy. The hardest part is not having many hard boiled eggs anymore! Good luck, it is a lot of fun.
