And while Im in the posting mood I thought I would just report that after my first month of keeping hens how blissful it is. They are an absolute delight!!

The girls follow me around the yard continuously (while often getting under my feet and Im sure Im their surrogate rooster) and are great little helpers in the garden. They have cleaned up some overgrown parts of the yard and are doing a great job (albeit a bit messy).

The magpie family that used to frequent the backyard are finding them annoying but the hens and the widlife are sorting out a pecking order - and the hens are winning!!

I have friends lined up for the most delicious eggs.

I should have got chooks years ago.

I've had my first "pet" chickens (not purely for food) for 12 weeks now and I'm having the best time too! Congrats!

I find them to be very calming. My favorite line is the fact that their feed costs a whole lot less than what I would pay a shrink.
You'll catch yourself just sitting around watching them do what chickens do....for hours!

Me too! My girls are now 4 mos old and we are in love! They call and come running when I near the coop. Some of them sit on my lap and love to be held and cuddled. I find myself spending hours with them. They are so soothing and peaceful. I call it Chicken Therapy!

I agree whole heartedly on the calming influence. The hens combined with my gold fish pond makes for a very relaxed and calm state of being.
