My family is somewhat new to hatching our own chickens. We have looked at some sites with eggs available with SQ in the posting. I can't find the meaning. Is it the line of a particular breeder? I would appreciate any information or a link to such information. Thanks.

SQ is an abbreviation for "show quality."

And be assured that there is no such thing as SQ EGGS. Even from the best parents, there is no guarantee that any chicks hatched from them WILL be SQ. I can mean Breeding quality, however, which with selection, MAY give SQ offspring?? It is easy to be misled. On the other hand, as long as you know the possibilities--such eggs may be a very good value. CJR

Thank you very much for the info. I understand the concept of you have no sure way of knowing what you have until they hatch. Have a great Valentine's Day!
