Hi, I was wondering... Do roosters crow while sleeping? Mine will start at 5:30 am while they are still roosting and it is pitch black out. My hubby thinks they are crowing in their sleep laugh . He kicks them out of the coop and then they stop. What do you think? smile

One of my roosters crows at all sorts of times. The passing sweep of a cars headlights, the moon coming out from behind a cloud, the sound of my dogs barking etc. Just a light sleeper I guess, the others sleep till dawn whatever happens.

I have a rooster that crows at ANY time of the day or night. He has even been known to crow at 2:00am. Sometimes a roosters crow is a warning sign, so at that time I put on my slippers and ran to the coop thinking something was in the hen house, just to find absolutely nothing. We've just decided we have a happy rooster laugh that likes to let us know.

Chicken do not "sleep" the way most critters do. So a rooster's crow can be any disturbance they detect, usually a light stimulus from anywhere. (moonlight-an airplane going over, etc.) Mine will crow, if I go out at night to check the heaters--it is pure dark, but they hear me coming (I think I make no noises). One will crow, echoed by a rooster or two from each of the other houses.) But this is not the rousing crowing contest that goes on when it is feeding time or other daytime entries==a real welcome. Children cover their ears! At night or at rest during the day, your chickens are always "slightly AWAKE". CJR

My henhouse is not too far from my house. If I get up in the night to use the bathroom my rooster will crow sometimes.

My roosters also crow while roosting, and all other hours of the day.

Mine crows All day. I can even look at him and say his name, and he'll crow. Guess he likes his name smile
