Welcome to the Classroom at the Coop!

The purpose of this post is to help new members get off to a quick and productive start.

I would like to start by going over a few very helpful features that are often overlooked by new members.

First is the search button at the top right hand side of the page. This will allow you to search years worth of topics for answers to your questions. It does take some practice. If you cant find what you are looking for try a different word or phrase. Keep in mind that some words have more than one meaning and some words have more than one spelling. Most all topics have had at least some discussion and many have had a lot. If you just cant find a clear answer to your question feel free to post it. That brings us to our next topic.

Posting -When posting please make your subject, or title, descriptive of the question. Things like “please help” or “newbie question” may cause your post to get skipped over by those who don’t have a lot of time. Keep it short but to the point. Next try to place it in the appropriate forum. There is a description under each forum title describing its intended purpose. Some topics do overlap and can fit in more than one forum. If a topic doesn’t appear to fit anywhere else put it in the misc. forum. From time to time a moderator will move a topic to another forum. You will notice that unlike some boards we do not have a general “chat” forum. This is the “ Classroom ” and we try to keep things in that frame of thought. For purely social communication or discussions between yourself and just one other person we ask that you use “Private messaging” or an outside means of communication.

Private messaging -Private Message or PM as it is often referred to is a way to contact another member of the classroom in private. You can do this by finding any post made by that member and clicking on the icon of the envelope just above their post. You can also go to the directory located at the top right corner of the page and using their screen name search for their profile. There you can send them a private message. To check your own PMs click on “My Stuff” in the menu above. Messages is at the top of the drop down list. Be sure to delete unneeded messages.

That brings us to “ faq ” or frequently asked questions. One more time to the top right hand corner. This section answers questions on using this board. Please review this and go back to it when you need to.

Moderators -Moderators can be contacted by PMing and by e-mail. Their e-mail links are at the top left of each forum. If you wish to bring a post to the attention of a moderator, because it is inappropriate for the forum it is in or any other reason, you can do so by clicking on the "notify" button below the post. If you have a problem, complaint, comment, or suggestion please contact a moderator.

I would like to point out our "Featured Topics".
These are posts that stay on top in each forum. They have titles such as "Helpful Links", "Glossary" and so on. Here you will find a great deal of information. They are updated from time to time so if you did not see what you needed in the past, check back.
