I have a few hens...almost 5 weeks, that are constantly opening thier mouths and streaching out their necks. They aren't making any unusual noises and are still running around, eating and drinking. I don't think they are sick, but was curious what is going on. My Roo did much of the same thing a few weeks ago (but he was making loud 'whistle' like noises. He is fine though.
Any thoughts??

How hot is it where you live? Could they be panting with the heat?

Chickens just do this--maybe like we clear our throats, but the stretch is the only way they can do it. Some people suggest gapeworm, but that is extremely rare in most places. CJR

Its been in the 90's but where their house is, it stays pretty nice. They aren't hot. The Roo stopped, so I'll keep an eye on them...I just moved them into their permanent home on Friday and they are not out in the yard yet. They are thefirst group in the house.
