i posted this in the waterfowl forum before i new this forum exsisted. my duck got attacked, i don't know what. i found her in the neighbors yard with flies all over the bottom of her wing. she's got a patch of raw skin with no feathers as big around as a pop can. she doesn't act hurt. i cleaned it off and started looking at the would and there were patches of little yellow things which i think may be fly eggs?? i don't know what to do about the wound. any help would be appreciated!!

are the yellow things long and skinny? If they are then yes, they are fly eggs.

i've got the tending of the wound down, but now there's a bigger problem. i was messing with the fang sized hole, and i found maggots in there. i have used the scissors to pull out about 6 or so. is there anything i can do to kill them?

Wash those maggots away using tap water. Careful not to damage the healing skin by using too much pressure. Do this right away.

Good luck!

i can't just wash them out, this is a little hole that they are in, i've heard i can use peroxide to kill the maggots, so i sprayed some on the wound and down in the hole, and everytime i do that, a few come out. the last time tho, i found none, so i'm hoping that they are all gone.

Sounds like your duck is taking it all in stride! That's a good sign.

Keep posting updates. Good luck with her healing. smile

i dunno, but she seems to be healing up. she's not being as nice with letting me mess with the sore though, last night she tried to eat my lip, and then she pulled my hair. lol.
