Hello everyone, any ideas would be appreciated...my 4 year old Plymouth won't get up off the floor of the hen house and has her eyes closed and is all puffed up. She's had intermittant diarrhea that was green for several weeks. Now she's on the floor next to the waterer. All the other chickens seem fine so far. Any clue what's going on? I feel really bad for her because I don't know if she's in pain.

Does she have swelling around her abdomen?

It's too late. I just went home on my lunch and she was dead. Laying on her side. frown Thank you anyway. I just hope whatever it was that the other chickens don't catch it.
Thank you for answering.

When a bird reaches the state that you described, it is usually too late to do anything. She was quietly leaving with the least notice that she could. She may have had some reproductory problem-most cannot be "fixed". Without a post mortum examination, there is no way to know for sure.
Very sorry to lose a nice hen, doubt you could have done anything for her, so do not blame yourself for not knowing what to do! Chickens are stoic and do not want you to know they have problems. Carry on, CJR

CJR, that is such a nice way to put it, and such a true thing. Heidi, I cry every time I lose one of the girls, even though I'm used to it now. I'm thinking of you.
