My one-year-old buff Orpington that is healthy in all other respects has a spot about the size of a silver dollar on her breast where the feathers are broken off. They are not falling out but are broken down to about an inch. She lives in a big coop with one other hen, a Cochin, and they get along just fine. Does anyone know why her feathers would be broken off like this? I don't see any feathers on the ground anywhere. I appreciate any feedback. Thanks!

She may be plucking them off herself. Is she going broody? That can be one reason why they pluck feathers. Is she resting her breast on the edge of her roost and sleeping like that? Are her protein levels adequate in her feed? She should be about 16-17% if she's laying.
