Hey Coop Friends,
this pullet chick is 5 wks old. From a hatchery.
Active, eating drinking normally. just noticed his head seem swollen. When picked him up there
was fluid under the skin making his head seem swollen...it felt squeshy when touched...whatever it is is affecting his whole body. Anybody ever experience this?? If you all have any clues or ideas let me know....thanks a bunch!!

Bobette, I'm sorry no-one has been able to help you out so far. I'm a newbie, more or less, so have no advice for you unfortunately, but it doesnt't sound real good to me!! Can we have an update on the little one?
Here's hoping, Josie

Bobette,

When you say "affecting his whole body" do you mean that there appears to be fluid under the skin on areas other than his head?

Is the skin dicolored any? Maybe a little blueish?
A blue green gelatinous fluid under the skin of chicks could be a selenium deficiency according the The Chicken health Handbook. Its a long shot but its all I can find. Good Luck!

This is a long shot...a guess...but once in a while an air sack gets damaged and leaks air under the skin and it looks like you blew the little fellow up like a balloon. It goes away when the air sack heals and stops leaking air. Just a thought.
