My chicken was caught by a fox and escaped - one wing is drooping.

1)How do I tell if it broken?

2)If it is, which I assume it is; how to strap up a broken wing?

Any advice would be much appreciated

Thank you

Gilly, can you see any bone coming out through the skin? Is there a spot where it is floppy? Not attached sort of floppy? If this is not so, it's only sprained, not broken. In either case, apply antibiotics, like polysporin eye drops, if there is bone coming through the skin, and pull gently on the base and tip of the wing so the bone goes back in. Release the tension gently so the bone doesn't grate. Skip all this if the bone does not come through the skin. Fold the wing into a normal position and tape to the bird's side, going under the other wing and around the body. Electric tape will do if it's all you have. Don't use duct tape as it will stick to the feathers too well. Vet Wrap is good too, non sticky and comes off easy. Remove the bandage after 3 days and see if the wing still droops. If it was sprained, it may no longer droop. If it was broken, tape up again and and expect about 3 weeks till the wing is healed. Most broken bones hel fast especially wings. Good luck
