I have noticed that sometimes chicken breeds (I assume) are referred to by 3 letter abbreviations: "CLB", "ISA", "RIR" etc. Is there somewhere a newbie can go to decipher these letters?
I would also like to say that this is the most complete, informative and entertaining forum I have ever seen! Thank you for all your expertise.

Some are VARIETY Names, such as
CLB (Cream Light Brown)--a Dutch Bantam variety in the US). ISA is part of a name of commercial Layers, not really a breed. (French origin, ISA BROWNS, a top egg producer, made from patented (?) complex crosses of other breeds. RIR (Rhode Island Red) well known Breed of US origin. Just ask about others that are mysterious! Someone will answer...... CJR

NHR= New hampshire Red. WLH= white leghorn, SLW= Silver lace wyandotte, PBR= Plymouth Barred Rock. There are quite a number of breeds and also colour variations within those breeds that are often abbreviated to a few letters
