Hello,
We have one of 3 hens, maybe 6 months old, that has recently been very lethargic, with swollen eyes that she scratches at. She seems to be eating and somewhat active, but looks like the early stages of a more serious issue. Her eyes are what worry us the most- one is kind of red and shut half the time. She is a Rhode Island Red, just started laying we think. Weather has been not too cold but she constantly is huddled under the coop. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Separate her. Keep her warm. Food and water near. Try a cloth wet with normal saline (1 cup warm water with 1/4 tsp salt dissolved in it) gently held on her eyes. Terramycin Ophthalmic ointment may help also. I get mine at the feed store.
Good Luck.

Are the eyes watering? Not a good sign. Just to exclude one thing: try to take a magnifying glass and see whether there are some extra small mites crawling around the area and irritating her? Check also the ears for mites by the same token.
