I've had chickens several times in the past and never fed them grit. This time around I'm feeding an organic ground grain product and wondering if my birds need grit. They are about 1 month old and they are outside on the ground in a protected brooder (this is Florida, so no heat needed now).

I've never given grit to my chickens in the past. Now several people have suggested that I need to feed grit. My chicks seem to be doing fine without it. Is Florida silica sand enough grit or do they need more?

Thanks for all the great information here!
