I messed up. My three baby chicks from March 02 were doing great, but I wanted more. So I bought some baby chicks the same age as mine and put them in together. Well, the ones I bought have something on them. Haven't seen it, but I have felt it. After playing with them last night as I have done with my others, I became itchy. First on my arm then later my head and back.
The safest insecticide for baby chicks is permethrin/pyrethrin. If you can find the orgainic pure stuff made from flowers that would be the safest. The stuff that you can get at the pet shops often has carbamates in it (read the label). You may have to consult a vet on where to get the pure permethrin or pyrethrin they are basically the same thing. You can use things like Sevin, but follow the directions.
I am guessing that the new chicks were infested. But I can't find whatever it is. Any suggestions? How do I treat my babies for possible infestation?

Some fowl mites are very small and light in color. You have to look close to see them. You can usually feel them crawling on your skin before you can see them. Fowl mites usually don't bother humans (unless you are allergic), but they don't feel very appealing when they are crawling over your body.
