Well.... I had heard of these but never experienced them until yesturday. Placed a bunch of eggs (none over 8 days old, they had been shipped but were fairly cold to the touch when I recieved them) in the incubator on 4/3/02... but on 4/06/02 noticed a few had "yuck" oozing out of their pores. The "yuck" looked like the yolk of the egg. Got them out of the incubator fast. One exploded and another exploded when I tapped it with a spoon. They were all from the same breeders, Partridge Cochin Standards.
Shipped eggs are at risk!! They were "addled" on their trip--yolk broke and mixed with the white. There might have been unseen hairline cracks, which may have introduced bacteria. Or if they were partially frozen enroute, there was some expansion within the shell-- I will not mail my extra eggs--too many risks--but some do have limited, to good to fairly good success. Not the fault of the breeder. But they may replace them for another try. Be sure to let any shipped eggs "rest" before placing them in the ready incubator. Sorry, CJR
We call these exploders. Some of them will ooze out egg material through tiny pores before they explode. They explode because bacteria start to grow inside the egg and gas buildup inside.
Yes, my shipper is replacing them.. she was so apologetic. Very nice lady.
Any clue why this happened??? Anyone else had exploding "weeping" eggs??
Thanks... Kari

I let my eggs rest for 12 hours before placing them in. These eggs looked extremely porous when I did my initial candling prior to incubation. I thought that strange and now feel that probably led to the contamination along with maybe a rough trip. This same shipper sent me some Barred Rock eggs. They have shown no sign of weeping. Hope that 7 day candling gives me some clues???
Thanks
