i am quite interested in quails. but my parents don't like anything that doesn't give us something in return, so i was wondering, can you eat quail eggs? i know you would have to eat about 50 of them to be enough to slightly fill you, but i gotta know! (i am interested in bobwhites, gambel, and button. so any info would be greatly appreciated! thanks!

I don't know in the US but here in Europe you can buy quail eggs at the fancy food departments - quite expensive - to eat, of course. They are mostly used as snacks for cocktail parties and to decorate feasty dishes.

You can treat them just like chicken eggs or make pickled eggs out of them. The eggs are around 9-12 grams. A standard sized chicken egg is around 55 grams, so it will take about 15 eggs to make a 3 egg omlet. The larger Bobwhite strains lay a larger egg.

You can get Bobwhites that are pretty good layers, but I don't know about Gambels. You have to provide extra light if you want your Bobwhites to produce a maximum number of eggs. If you do not provide additional light the Bobwhites will only lay in the spring and summer.
