Okay, here goes... i bought emu eggs to hatch and I noticed a few days ago that one was leaking so I removed it. Well, today I finally got the nerve up to drain it and to look at the fetus, but there was no fetus, at least I did not see one. The only thing that cam out was a thick milky looking substance, and a little yolk.
My best guess is that it was either infertile OR damaged in shipping. Was the yolk in tact or did it seem to be broken in the shell?
A way to check if the other eggs are fert. is to take a strong flashlight and take the eggs into a dark room and shine teh light though them. If there is a dark spot or veins it is fert. Remove any that don't they rot and produce a gas that can kill the other fetus.
So my question would be, was this egg fertile or not?? I have had it in the incubator since 3/13/02, my other egg has lost weight and I am hoping that at least it is fertile.
I took pictures of what came out to I could send it to the person who sent them to me.
Any and all advice is welcome, even if you only raise chicken eggs.....

I've never shipped or bought any fertile eggs like that but I have heard many, many stories of them not doing well with the shipping process. I would definitely contact the seller and see if you can get a replacement egg or your $ back.
