I want to breed primarily for meat that "tastes like chicken used to" together with some egg production.
Try Orpingtons. They are great brown egg producers as well as meat birds. My 5 three-year-old hens lay more than a dozen eggs a week, and at 8 lbs. apiece they make tasty broilers, too.
At the moment I am considering Marsh Daisies, La Bresse or Plymouth Rocks. All suggestions welcome.
