I have 2 penhens and I keep them with my chickens. They seem to get along alright. What food should
I be giving my hens. I think they are about 16 m. If anyone is knowledgable on peafowl I would appreciate your input. They are loose inside the henhouse and seem to be staying in. The snowy weather helps. I clipped one wing on each bird so they willnot escape.

The only problem that might turn up is a sickness that peafowl get from chickens called "blackhead". You'll need to look that one up for the finer points. I have never seen it. My old cock bird gets pretty bossy with other birds in his pen. I have often worried about the pea chicks getting clobbered by the old boy but every year they seem to survive. Good luck.

You are real lucky. Peafowl under a year old should be kept in cages, up off the floor. They are extremely susceptible to disease under 1 year old. But, yours are 16 months, so you are passed the critical stage. Peafowl will eat anything your chickens eat but, blackhead will always be a risk if you keep them with your chickens. They pick it up from poultry droppings, and the spores (called oocytes) last a long time....like 3 years or more.
My recommendation, if you have room is build another coop and get you a peacock.:) Nothin uglier than a baby peafowl, but, ooooh look at the results!
The original ugly duckling.

I spoke to my vet on this when I got my frist pea's, he allso keeps pea's and chicken's. Say's to keep wild turkey's out of area. They are the carries of blackhead

I think you should find a new vet. Do your own research & you will be inclined to agree. Chickens & Peafowl do not mix.
