Does anyone know if the French breed of chicken, known as "Bresse", is available in this country? Does anyone have an idea as to how hard it would be to import either live birds, or fertile eggs?
Thanks
Tom

I have been researching this breed for a while and it seems that it is the region (Bresse) rather than a breed of chicken.
The chicken farmed is a white leghorn h/brid.

There are 1000s of "breeds" of chickens that are named for the region where they were developed from birds they liked. France has dozens of such breeds. There is little advantage to any of the regional breeds. But we do love birds of our area or heritage. Holland has dozens, all nice. Obtaining them, unless there were birds brought in in the 40's, is almost impossible. And the "leghorn" in Europe is a slightly different bird than ours, is called the Italianer and is bred in a dozen or more varieties. But we enjoy learning of your research and widening our horizons!
