Ty, The Golden Duckwing is a BB Red/Silver cross. It is complicated in that sexes divide the colors differently, according to which is the breeding male and the breeding female, in each generation. You need to keep very good records of the matings, the offspring and next generations, as, ei. a Golden Duckwing female and a Silver female look alike. I have a chart (in Dutch) which illustrates 4 generations with both a Silver cock and a Black Breasted Red cock used in the production. It is a wonderful genetic excercise not to be entered lightly. I raise large fowl old english games in BB Red ,Brown Red , Lemon Blue, and My favorite- Crele. They are totally different from the bantam Old English in temperment and attitude. They require a lot more space , feed , and individual attention but they are worth it because of their beauty. The positives regarding standard gamefowl is their tolerance to certain diseases, their vigor(toughness) and ability to thrive under adverse circumstances. You do not need facilities like the Waldorf Astoria to successfully raise and propagate gamefowl. My stags (young cockrels are kept in 4 feet by 3 feet pens and may times I will give them a hen to "keep them company" . these pens can be constructed by ripping a landscaping timber in half and nailing it together with 16 penny nails. 2x4x36 inch dog wire is used to make the sides . Be cautious about the height of your dog wire as the wind will blow it over if it is too high. cut the dog wire in about 13 feet sections and nail it with staples around the bottom forming it to the sides of the timbers as you go. when you are finished cut a 4 foot piece of wire and use it for the top by clipping it with j clips or small hog rings . Rip a 2x4 in half to make a 2x2 and use it for the roost. Be sure to put it at least 18 inches off the ground to allow room for the big beautiful tails that your gamefowl should develop. Put a piece of corougated tin over the top and you have a wonderful pen. I have been discouraged by many bantam breeders from raising them for exhibition in the south because of the lack of interest in large fowl in general and game fowl more specifically. I ,however, am not discouraged and will seek to promote this beautiful breed as one quite worthy of exhibition. If I can help anyone in any way with stock or information I will be glad to do so. GET SOME BIG GAMES AND RAISE SOME REAL CHICKENS!
