Tyler, Self Blue is a color, not a breed. It is found in several different breeds, and, indeed is not easy to breed good ones and isn't really a common color. So now you need to learn what breed your Self Blue bird is. The color is called Lavender in some breeds, Pearl Gray in others. And isn't it a gorgeous color? CJR

Discribe the bird as fully as you can.

Can somebody please help me to identify a chicken I found on the freeway in California. I decided to keep her since I already have some chickens and think they are great pets. She is white, big and heavy with yellow legs and short wattles. She does not lay eggs yet but is heavier than my Plymouth Rocks. My dad says she's a leghorn, but I'm sure she is too heavy for that. I read that cornish rocks grow too heavy for their legs to support them well and since she doesn't walk very well, I suspect she may be that type. Since she was scraped up when I found her I had assumed she had fallen off a truck and was simply sore or slightly injured and that is the reason she is shaky when she walks. Is there a way to verify whether is is a cornish rock and if she so,is there a way to help her live longer. The stuff I read says they don't live long. She is very gentle and I would like to keep her around as long as possible. Cheryl
