I have three chicks 7 weeks old. One is all white with a small yellow comb. The second is black with a little white spot on one wing (maybe a Jersey Giant?) the third chick is the most interesting - brownish grey feathers speckled with white. The feathers don't seem to be the same pattern as the Barred Rock pictures that I have seen. This chick also has 'tufts' by each cheek and Might be developing a beard. It is very comfortable when my daughter holds it and falls to sleep easily in her arms. I hope it is not a rooster that will upset my neighbors - I would hate to have to get rid of it after 7 weeks of TLC! Any ideas?? Thanks. You can also e-mail me at Rmoore2255@aol.com
Your little chicken might be a Speckled Sussex.
I recently purchased 12 little chicks. I was not smart enough to ask how old they are. And even dumber to not ask what kind. I have no idea! Four are a golden brownish color. (More brown than gold.) Four are black with jsut a little grey on the wings. And the other four are whitish with a little yellow and grey mixed here and there. I guess the reason I didn't ask what they were is, they were mixed when I got them. Can you tell me what they are?
The cheeks tufts make them sound like americanas.
