Has anyone heard of a breed called the Manx Rumpie? I saw a reference to this breed in an old book and was wondering if it's still around. It was supposed to be an old English breed.
This rather unattractive breed is, indeed, still around. Pics and info:
I only Know that they are still around and if you are interested in the breed you can contact the Sandhill Preservation Center- 319-246- 2299( please no sunday or Monday calls or calls after 9:45 P.M)
Sand Hill Preservation Center has lots of rare breeds, so anyone still reading this and wanting a rare breed of chicken, duck, goose, turkey, or bantam should try this place.
To Anonymous: Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I rather like the looks of the Manx Rumpies, I also like Araucunas. I think rumpless birds and (i kow, i'm weird) necked necks are cute.
Rumpless , Manx Rumpie , Bolstaart
Cees, There are other rumpless breeds in Holland (saw them at the NoordShow, also show at Ede), the Aracauna , Chabo Bolstaart, as well as the Drentse Kriel Bolstaart. Took a look in the Jeffrey book, and found references (Anna Banning, now of Doorwerth) to Barbu d'Everberg, feather legged, Barbu de Grubbe, clean legged, and Ruhlaer Rumpless. The Persian Fowl and the Drentse Bolstaart are the same bird, just different names.
Cjenr, Sorry but I was not an question if there are differend chicken that are rumpless. My question is there an discribtion of that rase. You wrote that you went to thre Noord show in Zuid Laren maybe you have seen some years ago the rumpless birds in differend collers from de Jutter that is my name when I show with chicken.
Cees, From the NoordShow (Zuidlaren) 1999 show, the following exhibitors are listed for Drentse Bolstaart: B. Mekkes, Schooonebeck, E.A.Luinge, Norg, J.Vrietink, Dedemsvaart, also, Drentse Bolstaartkriel, P.v.Schijndel, Lith. The Bolstaart birds were shown in gezoomd patrijs, gezoomd geelpatrijs, gezoomd silverpatrijs, patrijs, geelpatrijs and silverpatrijs. I have pictures of the geelpatrijs, as it is a variety we raise in Hollandse Kriel in the U.S., and in no other breeds, my favorite variety. I am still not sure I have answered your question, but I will keep trying. Do plan to attend the show at Wehl in November, if you can. The Drentse will be shown in large numbers and the breeders should be able to tell you the history of the birds and their breeding. Where do you live in The Netherlands? I am in NW Montana (Wildfires in the forests at present-awful). CJR
Cjeanr, You have right I didn't went to the Noord show in 1999, it was in 1998. With patrijs, gold pencilled, cuckoo.
Cees, We are not all together on our language, and I am sure you have difficulty with mine, as I am not sure of the meaning of all the words you send to me. Still, we can understand each other and I am so glad that you wrote.
Cjeanr, I mean the picture you took from an Drentse bolstaart. What was the reason? Is the Drentse bolstaart not noon or are the called Manx or Persian rumpless. The bantam rumpless (your photo) how do you call them ??.

Can sombody tel me somthing more about the rumpless chickens. In the Netherlands where i come from we cal it the Drentese hoenders bolstaart. It is very much the same as the Kaulhuner in Germany. Later i read about the Persian Rumpless. In a book of International registry of poultry genetic stocks by R.G Somes the discription is brown egges yellow skin eyes reddish bay earlobs red shanks yellow and in various coulors.
A McGraw has an artile on the internet also about the rumpless with some pictures. The picture of some birds look very much the same like chicken in my barn, the onely difference is that those chicken walk in Holland.
But he has his chicken from an friend from Persia.
Can somebody give my information about rumpless chicken
With greetings from Holland
Cees

Rumpless is a genetic feature. I have not studied it, but perhaps Dr. H. Gankema of Holland (Veendam) has that information. Love Holland and if you can attend the 100th Anniversay Show of the Poultry Assn. of The Netherlands at Wehl, Nov 18-19 you will surely find some of each breed that is considered "Dutch"!! I am dreaming of going over, as I raise Hollandse Krielen and there will be several hundred at that show!! CJR

The drenthe fowl rumpless "belongs" to the drentse hoenders. They have an special club. That year i went to clubmatch at Hoogeveen. With the coulors patrijs, silver patrijs, cuckoo patrijs, black, white, blue and cuckoo.
I'm a member of that specialclub, some members breed also the rumpless variety (bolstaart). Although the breed with lacing (gezoomd).
I hope to go at Wehl with some chicken, a small problem is that at the same time the clubmatch is at Hoogeveen. But we hope to see at both shows lots of chicken. Next saturday we have at Arnhem a day with old Netherland chicken races. I go there with the other memebers of the drentse hoender club.
You wrote that a photo of the gold patijs (drentse bolstaart) is a variety of the Hollandse kriel ???
What race do you breed Cjeanr and what coulors ??
Can you tell me more about the persian rumpless ??
Greetings from Cees
Ps I live in Ens a small place near by Emmeloord.

My picture is of the Drentse Bolstaart in Geelpatrijs, not a Hollandse Kriel, which I raise. But I raise only
Hollandse Kriel in Patrijs, Blauwpatrijs, Geelpatrijs. I have birds from J. Enninga at Klazienaveen and J. Schuurman (now deceased) who was at St. Michelsgestel when I visited in 1992. I would like to come to Wehl, but do not think I could have my birds ready to leave. But maybe Zuidlaren in January???? Jeanr
