I have two Wyandottes....I *thought* both were hens but I have come to the embarrassing realization that my "aggressive hen," Louise, is actually a very normal and pleasant rooster.
years. In March I got 4 Silver Laced Wyandottes, with
the idea the Barred Rocks would "retire" soon. I have a
series of fences, some 2 ft and some 3 ft high to keep
the girls out of certain garden areas and off my patio.
But these "teenaged" Wyandottes are getting over all my
carefully planned barriers and causing big problems.
Will they get heavier and less able or apt to fly as
they become full grown? Or is this a more agile breed,
meaning I'd either have to clip their wings or get rid
of them and go back to Barred Rocks? The Barred Rocks
CAN fly over, but they never bother unless they are
running scared.

Anyhow... both Thelma and Lou would fly over my two foot chicken fence. Lou no longer can (or wants to...?) but Thelma is still pretty small and light. Neither of my Dominiques fly over the fence... not even Lucy, who has been getting terrorized by Lou. I think if you fatten your birds up, the fence will hold them. Thelma is always very willing to go back into the enclosure... and then an hour later, she's out again!
