Anny, I do hope you can come to Gildehaus. There is an entry of 550 Dutch Bantams, there will be most in this color, but many other varieties of Dutch, also. And a few other interesting regional breeds are listed. Hannah took the picture of that winning cock at Richmond (and asked me if I minded telling you that he is one of my birds,) sold not long ago--just about 2 years old. There were 200 Dutch Bantams at Richmond. One of this bird's sons that I sent to KY was Best of Breed at Columbus last month. I do not show my birds, and my pleasure is having others do well with the birds I raise. Am wild getting ready to leave my birds and cat and dog and horses! CJR

Anny, the pic did turn out well, as did most of the others. I used a Sony FD Mavica 1.6 megapixel digital camera to take the pic. This particular camera is the only one on the market that uses the "memory stick" and a regular 3.5 floppy disk!!

I was able to take a load of pics for CJR and then copy them and give her the disk right there at the show. The beauty of this camera is the fact that where ever I go I can take pics and then leave behind perfect copies!

I bought the camera in August, and since then I've took 2700 pics, yes 2700. My out of pocket cost was the price of the camera! The pics cost me nothing! Just the price of floppy's, and you know how cheap they are.

The above pic was taken on the 640 X 480 resolution, which allows approximately 30 pics on a floppy. The memory stick (32 megabits, and you can buy up to a 256 megabit stick) holds approximately 30 floppys worth of pics! This camera goes up to 1472 X 1104 resolution.

The battery is also rechargeable and interchanges with my sony video camera. No buying expensive batteries like most of the digitals out there. Batteries last a long time, you can even get a recharger that hooks into your cars cigerette lighter!

Didn't mean to turn this into a commercial for the Sony camera, but it was worth every penny I paid for it and more!

Hi,
That really is a beautiful bird. CJR how come you chose to concentrate on the Dutch Bantams? Just curious.

Daniel, I have had poultry all my life, and my children chose Silkies, and we had them for many years. But when I delivered some Silkies to a friend across the mountains, she had a Silver Dutch cock that just hit me as the most beautiful bantam I had ever seen! But in 1983, Dutch Bantams were not easy to find. It took me 3 years to locate some--in Florida- and not Silvers. After raising a few, they just didn't look like I expected, and so in 1992, I took a trip to Holland, and met a number of judges, breeders of a number of varieties, including Silvers (WOW) and knew mine were not right! Went to a show in AL and KNEW they were not right! Distributed pictures of the birds from Holland--went back to the European Poultry Show that fall, and began what has been a 15 year project to bring the Dutch Bantams in America up to the Standard of the birds in The Netherlands. I do not know how anyone can do a job of record keeping, each mating, each egg, each chick to maturity with more than one breed or more than a couple of varieties. It is a never ending project, as hope is that each generation will be better than the last! And perfection is never reached. I love their temperment--a 7 year old hen is an irreplaceable friend, as are any of the breeding birds after they are hatched and raised to adults. Parting with any of those special birds is difficult. The bird in the picture is almost twoyrs. and was a favorite of mine. I have no son or daughters--all sold.So I hope I can hatch another brother or sister from his parents--3 year old birds. I really like all bantam breeds, but can be successful with just one and I like to be successful with my projects! And this year I finally obtained a start in Silvers of the quality that I dreamed of! They will be next to produce exhibition individuals! That's about it! CJR
