iIhave 7 plymoth Rocks ,there about 5 weeks old.6 of them are mostly black with specks of white. The other one has more white then black and the black seems more of a dark gray.why is this??They are all suppose to be female.i also bought them all at the same time at the same place.so why is only one different???if anyone can help me ,it would be great.
Where did you get them? What color are they supposed to be? Sorry I can't provide you with an answer and I will be on vacation for 8 days with no computers so hopefully someone else will be able to help you.
Are these Barred Plymouth Rocks? It sounds like it from your description, but I hate to assume. As day old chicks, Barred Rocks are black with a white dot on top of their head. Barred males tend to be lighter in color than females, and the bars in their feathers are generally farther apart. I am guessing you have ended up with a cockerel and six pullets. It is extremely difficult to sex day old chicks, and is never 100% accurate. Even the best can only achieve about 95% accuracy. Good luck with your birds!
