Yesterday I bought some chicks, and today I noticed one of the Bantams has its eyes closed. It does not seem to open them at all, however, the eyes do not seem swollen. Is it blind? Is there something I can put on the eyes to help?
Chicks spend lots of time sleeping, particularly after getting settled into new quarters. Is it possible baby is just snoozing? If you can watch for a while, perhaps this chick will go to sleep standing up, then sit down to sleep or fall over and sleep some more before going after feed and water again. See if you can find a pattern. Is everything else normal?
Dr.Bruce thanks so much for your response and I am able to inform you that today I examined the chick and it wasn't sleeping. However, after talking to a couple of people here in town I decided to use a little water and put a drop on the eye. It worked! It's eyes are now opended and can you believe it went straight to the water and started drinking like it hadn't had anything to drink in a while. Thanks again for the response!!
I hate to have to add to this conversation again but my chick's eyes have closed again!!!!! What can I do? I would hate to continue the water if it only opens its eyes for such a short time. Why would the chick's eyes stick? Please Help!!!!!
