I was wondering if anyone has ever seen or heard of a chick having only one eye? I have a chick that has an eye that is shut and has a light brown liquid coming out. After having a friend examine it they thought it may not even have an eye there. I find it hard to believe though that it wouldn't have an eye especially since it has the mucus coming out. What do you think? Is there anything I can do?
I really dont try to figure out all the problems with defective offspring. After years of breeding animals of all classes, I came to the concludssion that the defective ones gotta go. I had a lamb born with one eye, like a cyclops, (total outcross), and persian kittens with hydorencephalitis, (not close bred). I have had defective foals born, to me that is only second to a human defect. I guess my point is, cull the chick and concentrate on the healthy ones. If you breed animals, you can expect some sadness. Work with the best and cull the rest.
Well, Robbpa I was a little upset with your response but I think that I was truely thinking the same thing. How ever, I decided to wait a little longer. After dropping warm salt water on it's eye for a week the eye has cleared so much it looks normal!!!!! I am so happy!
