Need Marek's vaccine

The Classroom @ The Coop: Poultry Health: Need Marek's vaccine

Does anyone know where I can get Marek's vaccine? McMurray no longer carries it for sale.

Chickfila, I get mine from Clausings Co., Nocatee FL, (863-993-2542) It is my understanding that the one company that makes it, is discontinuing the freeze dried tablet sales. And it may only be available in huge quantity for the commercial hatcheries, who vaccinate 1000s and 1000s of chicks at a time. It keeps refrigerated "indefinetly" so I just got 4 vials--enough for me for 16 hatches. After that?? Well, it may be time for me to stop hatching???? I just hope there will be reconsideration of the packaging!! Or that the information I received is wrong! CJR

Thanks so much for the information. The product that I had been geeting was that huge bottle that would vaccinate 1000 plus chicks so I hope that this company is still selling it. I enjoy hatching babies but not at the risk of this awful disease.

Can any other animals contract Marek's Disease from poultry? If so, how...and is there any help for them?

I had a rooster who had Marek's and he has passed on. My friend has ferrets, they came down with some of the same familiar symptoms as Marek's. The vet said they acted like they had an air-born poultry disease, but didn't say for sure or mention Marek's.

Anybody have any comments?? or help???

Thanks
Deb

No, Marek's is known, generally, as specific to chickens, not wild birds or other fowl. It is not known in mammals. CJR
